This computer information systems MBA is designed
for managers who need an understanding of the
information resources of their companies. In
addition to the core MBA courses of the program,
students are exposed to very specific information
management systems issues that confront the information
systems manager everyday. Students enrolling
in this concentration can expect to be exposed
to practitioners and issues highly relevant to
the changing workplace. In the 21st Century,

Specialized Courses for Computer Information
Systems MBA
Decision Support and Expert Systems
Focuses on the introduction of Management Support Systems
(MSS). This course presents the fundamentals of technological
developments available for management decision making
and the manner in which they are being constructed
and used.
Applied Database Management Systems
Examines techniques for determining database requirements
and managing organizational data resources. Strategies
for designing organizational data resources are also
examined. Strategies for designing database management
system applications that satisfy specific requirements
are presented. Components and architecture of hierarchial,
network, relational, and object-oriented models are
discussed in detail. Data modeling concepts, together
with the concept of shared enterprise data, are explored.
Design of Information Systems
Explores the theories and applications of database
design techniques and models, including relational,
hierarchial, and networking models. This course also
provides in-depth evaluations of database management
implementation on decision making.
Telecommunications and Computer Networks
Examines recent advances and new applications in the
expanding field of telecommunications and computer
networks. The technical fundamentals, architectures,
and design of computer networks are described. Strategies,
tools, and techniques for network planning, implementation,
management, maintenance, and security are delineated.
Topics include data communications fundamentals, the
Open Systems Interconnect (OSI) Reference Model (RM),
network operating systems, protocols, topologies, configurations,
performance characteristics, transmission media, and
multiplexing concepts. Trends in standardization, internetworking,
downsizing, and the development of Local Area Networks
(LAN), Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN), Wide Area
Networks (WAN), Global Area Networks (GAN), and enterprise-wide
networks are covered. Emerging technologies including
the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), Broadband
ISDN (BISDN), X.25, frame relay, Switched Multimegabit
Data Service (SMDS), and Asynchronous.
Information Resources Management
Explores the managerial concepts relating to the administration
of informational resources within an organization.
This course pays particular attention to the newest
innovation within the field of information resources
management.
