The Master of Business Administration Finance
MBA provides students with the opportunity for
in-depth study of the most modern concepts, theories,
analytic methods, and problem-solving techniques.
It emphasizes the practical uses of these financial
management principles in businesses, non-profit
organizations, and government. Students will
actively participate in presentations, discussions,
and activities highlighting practical business
applications, current event applications, problem
solving, analysis of case studies, and other
financial applications.
Specialized Courses for Finance MBA
Money and Banking
Provides students the opportunity to learn and discuss
the topics of money, money markets, money market participants,
monetary policies and its effects, and regulation of
money markets, in addition to examining banks, banking
services, and the banking industry. The dynamic nature
of the banking industry will be examined, highlighting
recent changes and expected future developments. Students
will also learn to identify and manage financial risks.
Students will write a project report on how to improve
some banking practices or business practices related
to banking or money management.
Financial Accounting
Provides students with an understanding and the opportunity
to prepare financial accounting statements on the past
performance and projected future performance of profit-oriented
businesses and nonprofit organizations. Students will
also learn to evaluate and efficiently use financial
accounting statements to identify business problems
and profit from business strengths. Students will write
a project report on how he or she could use some of
the principles of financial accounting to improve the
financial performance of a company or organization.
International Business Finance
Introduces students international financial capital
flows in the global economy, focusing on how firms
can borrow from, lend to, and invest in foreign countries.
The costs and benefits of international business financing
are analyzed, from both short-term and long-term perspectives,
considering both direct and indirect effects. Business
strategies for managing financial risks are examined,
including foreign exchange risk, interest rate risk,
and default risk. Students will complete a project
report on how his or her firm can profitably borrow
from, lend to, or invest in a particular foreign country,
using the international money market and international
capital market.
Personal Financial Planning
Introduces the financial planning process and presents
legal, ethical, and regulatory issues affecting professional
financial planners. An introduction to the fundamental
components of comprehensive personal financial planning
is explored, including insurance planning, investment
planning, employee benefits and retirement planning,
income tax planning, and estate planning. Students
will prepare a project report to further examine a
financial plan of personal interest.
Public Finance
Helps students to understand and undertake responsible
budgeting practices at various levels of government
- local, state, and national. Students will learn to
read and develop a budget of tax revenue income, expenditures,
and transfers to achieve policy makers' financial objectives
for their constituents. This course explores the issues
of tax policy, fiscal policy, transfer programs, budget
deficits, public debt, and budget planning. Students
will prepare a project report using the principles
of public finance to improve a government practice.
