The Human Resources Management MBA at Baker College
has been designed for persons who work within
the personnel or human resources area. In addition
to the core business courses, students are exposed
to very specific issues that confront the human
resource manager every day. Students can expect

Specialized Courses for Human Resource
Management MBA
Compensation and Benefits
Examines financial rewards in organizations. Students
will examine compensation, surveys, reward and incentive
systems, pay equity, benefits, legal issues, and the
strategic planning of compensation and reward systems
in organizations.
Labor and Industrial Relations
Provides students the opportunity to analyze industrial
relations by looking at the history of the labor movement
and public policy in industrial relations. This course
will also focus on union and management policies, strategies
and outcomes of union organizing, negotiations, grievance
and arbitration procedures, conflict and dispute resolution,
as well as legal issues in industrial relations.
Organizational Development
Examines various organizational structures and strategies
for structuring work to maximize effectiveness and
innovation in organizations. This course will also
focus on ways to adjust organizational cultures, manage
change, and sustain performance when confronted with
environmental changes. Topics covered include leadership,
power and influence, conflict and cooperation, work
design, and team development.
Personnel and Staff Selection
Familiarizes students with the various techniques and
methods used in employee selection. Students will become
familiar with the skills necessary to effectively implement
human resource planning, job analysis, selection techniques,
recruitment, and employee evaluation. Throughout the
course, various legal issues and policy issues related
to human resources will be explored.
Training and Development
Focuses on determining an organization's training needs.
Emphasis will be placed on training needs analysis
techniques, designing training programs, implementation
of training programs, evaluation of training programs,
and the cost effectiveness of training programs.
