The International Business MBA at Baker College
provides the student with the opportunity for
in-depth study of the most modern concepts, principles,
analytical, and problem-solving techniques of
international business management. Students will
actively participate in discussions of international
business applications, current events, and analysis
of case studies.
Specialized Courses for International
Business MBA
Multinational Business Management
Examines how to develop, maintain, and expand
business operations through international transactions
in a global economy. Topics covered include the economic,
political, and cultural factors determining the business
environment, direct foreign investment, human resource
management of foreign labor, international law, international
marketing, international trade, international finance,
and strategic planning in a global economy. Students
will complete a project report explaining how their
firm currently manages its international transactions
and develop a proposal for improving these international
business practices.
International Trade
Presents case studies and other applications of the
theories of international trades under both perfect
and imperfect market conditions. International trade
in resources, products, and assets will be analyzed
from both the static and dynamic perspectives, using
modern trade models. Students will complete a project
report on applying trade theories to explain the importance
of transactions of their firms, and evaluate opportunities
for profitability increasing their firm's international
trade.
Economic Development
Introduces students to the many economic, social, political,
cultural, and environmental dimensions of developing
countries, focusing on how businesses can efficiently
operate and trade with these emerging market economies
in different regions of the global economy. The opportunities,
incentives, and risks are explored for business development
in the underdeveloped economies with many market problems,
such as traditional cultures, resistance to development,
poverty, overpopulation, illiteracy, malnutrition,
unemployment, inflation, lack of access to credit,
inefficient government policies, and barriers to international
trade, and foreign direct investment. Students will
complete a project report on the business environment
for operating in and expanding production of a particular
industry in a selected developing country.
International Business Finance
Introduces students international financial capital
flows in the global economy, focusing on how firms
can borrow from, lend to, and invest in foreign countries.
The costs and benefits of international business financing
are analyzed, from both short-term and long-term perspectives,
considering both direct and indirect effects. Business
strategies for managing financial risks are examined,
including foreign exchange risk, interest rate risk,
and default risk. Students will complete a project
report on how his or her firm can profitably borrow
from, lend to, or invest in a particular foreign country,
using the international money market and international
capital market.
International Marketing
Addresses the generation of methodical strategic marketing
applications designed for the global environment with
a focus on product distribution, production, pricing,
and promotions necessary for success in the global
environment. Problems in global market integration,
global trade, and global investments are also examined.
